Helsinki is the capital city of Finland. Located on the Gulf of Finland it is also called ‘Pearl of the Baltic Sea’, it is famous for its Nordic architecture and cuisine. Helsinki has a rich Nordic history as it was first set up as a trading town for seamen and traders. The city has subarctic climate. With extreme winters and cold summers. It is home to an estimated 1.5 million people. In 2021, Helsinki was ranked the happiest city in Europe. Moreover, the city was visited by 3.5 million international tourists as well.

Helsinki has some of the most beautiful sights in the world and as a tourist one must not miss these when visiting this historic city.

1: Fortified Islands of Suomenlinna: 

This picture is of a place in Finland known as Fortified Island of suomenlinna.

The castles built in 1800s were home to Swedish army to deter wars from the east. Today they are open for public as museum and are include in UNESCO’s list of world heritage monuments. The only way to reach them is through a 20-minute ferry ride across the river. This provides tourist a view of Helsinki Skyline. 

2: Market Square:

The Market Square is one of the oldest attractions in Helsinki. Bordering the Baltic Sea this market square is untouched since 16th century.
